Welcome!

Welcome to my blog. I am participating in a class titled Emerging Technology. It is part of Drake University's Adult Learning and Organizational Performance Master's program.

The textbook for the course is Wikinomics. The book is, to quote the cover, "A brilliant guide to one of the most profound changes of our time..." Technology is evolving at an incredible pace and those who do not stay current will be left behind. As we used to say when I was a kid - "Be there, or be square." I look forward to hearing from you.

Platforms for Participation

Open platforms allow businesses to add value by adding the platform of other businesses to its own web services. The decorative ceiling design at the top of the picture is my daughter's new business venture. I have suggested that she consider developing a open platform blog/website to increase hits to her own site and provide an additional service to customers.

But again, we go back to the issue of how to learn to use all of the new technologies and answer all of the relevant questions. If, for instance, my daughter wanted to link Google Map applications with lighting stores, how does she create the application? How do you connect to Amazon's web index and how do you know if it is worth the consumption fee?

Open platforms offer the opportunity to build your business with less capital outlay and fewer add-on costs, along with a potential for collective benefits. It all sounds good, but how do you get on board? The one thing that is certain is that for my daughter's business venture to succeed, she needs to produce sales from her current product line and have customer input to develop additional product lines. Open platforms mean more contact with potential clients. Hopefully, we will figure out how to get it done.
